A True Christmas Miracle

Needs your help!

On Christmas Day 2009 my mom and I were driving on a back road we never take during the winter months, due to possible ice and snow.  We decided to take that route since it’s picturesque and it was so sunny and beautiful on Christmas day, we figured there would be no snow!  As we traveled down the small windy two lane highway between Auberry and North Fork, we noticed a medium sized pup on the side of the road.  He was trying his best to stand up and walk, but clearly had severe injuries that were causing great pain.  The poor little guy never gave up, and when I approached him, he just wagged his tail.  This little Christmas Miracle did not growl, cry, or complain through the whole ordeal.  He was just thrilled to have help!

We continued our journey and tried to contact the Sheriff’s Department for an emergency number, but since it was a holiday, no one seemed to know what to do other than leave him in the drop cage at the shelter.  I exclaimed that he would not make it overnight!  Three hours later, we arrived at the Pet ER in Fresno where he was taken in as a stray.  We were told that the doctors would determine if he was strong enough to make it through the weekend, or if not, he would be euthanized.  I called that night to see what his destiny would be, and found out that he was going to be stabilized through the weekend.  I had a long weekend since I didn’t sleep much as I was so worried about the little guy.  In the meantime I called my good friends, Marilyn with PROUD dog rescue, and Carol to help decide the best course of action Monday.  Marilyn and I were planning to pull him from the shelter Monday if we could track him down, but long story short… after talking with the animal control officer’s at the Fresno SPCA, who said they had heard of his call but he will be going to Madera, I contacted the ER again and talked with a different receptionist who was thrilled to be able to release Christmas Miracle to rescue, and said, “why don’t we pull from them?”  Mom and I were ecstatic and headed over to the ER as we called Marilyn to let her know the great news!!

Dr. Chris Dobbins and his wonderful staff had done a great job stabilizing our little guy who we have since named “Chris” short for Christmas Miracle, in honor of the doctor who saved his life by keeping him alive that night!  Chris would not be alive today if not for the beautiful new ER Dr. Dobbins opened, and also for the good rescue friends all pulling together to help save this little soul.  He was meant to live and we are now doing our best to give him the best treatment possible!

Chris has had his first surgery (and we’re hoping his last, but are not sure yet), on his broken femur bone thanks to Dr. Hatayama at South County Veterinary Hospital.  Thanks to our wonderful Doctor and staff at this great hospital, they are so committed to helping the rescue dogs and spending countless hours!  They have agreed to help Chris by taking donations and payments while Chris recovers.  He is now walking on three legs and doing much better, but still in pain as he has a long road ahead of him!

If you can help Chris out in any way, we truly appreciate it.  Every little bit adds up and can help Chris to live a much better life; we have saved his life, thanks to all that helped, but now need to help him be pain free!

Please send donations to 1811 Whitson St. Selma, CA 93662.  Checks can be made payable to South Co. Vet and please place a note inside so they know what the donation is for!  The note should say something like…

ATTN: Georgia… this donation is for Christmas Miracle under Debbie Tisdale’s file.  They will keep track of our account and this will go towards his medical bill now and also help with future costs if we get enough!  That would truly be a blessing for Chris as he needs more help than we can give him.  You can also try calling in donations to their # 559-896-8616 but they are a very busy office and may place you on hold quite often.  They help many rescues as well as regular customers, and never stop!

Or… You may also mail donations directly to us, All Ears Dog Training and Rescue at PO Box 3972 Clovis, CA 93613, ATTN Christmas Miracle! Please mail checks only!

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about this miracle boy and hope that your New Year is as blessed as his has been!

We are thankful for any support you feel you can give as we would like to continue therapy with this little guy to try and get more motion in that rear leg, and the doc is worried about him having a stiff knee, due to the brake being right by the knee!  Also, we’d love to keep you posted on his progress if you leave your return address!  Please feel free to contact Debbie if you have any questions or concerns.  Her info is on her webpage, as well as other rescue dogs who need loving homes: www.itsallears.com

Thank-You!

UPDATE TO EVERYONE…. We are still in need of donations but Christmas is home and recovering well.  His knee is clearly stiff and still painful but doing much better!  Everyday is a little better, and he will continue to heal, but it’s going to take a few months to determine precisely how well he will be able to heal.  Chris is gaining weight and enjoying a peaceful life free of dangerous vehicles!!  We were thrilled to find out he could leave the hospital, but also realize it was taking a toll on him and he would heal faster in a home environment.  He is on the road to recovery!!  Thank You to all who did send donations, and we will be sending out cards and a pic with an update letter soon!!  If you’d still like to help out, please see the above info to send donations which are greatly appreciated!  We do not yet know how much the bill will be, but are keeping a close eye on Chris and trying to collect as much as we can.  We know we don’t have near enough to cover it, but hoping we will get there in time.  It all adds up and Chris is alive because of all the help he’s received from everyone!  Thank You!

Update 2/9/10

Chris visited the doc again and unfortunately he is not using his knee much... he is learning quite well how to hop around on three legs, and even climb stairs!!  However, doc said he is going to remove the pin in his knee, probably in March, and this will hopefully give Chris more mobility!  By then Chris will heal and be able to swim too.... hopefully that will help out as well.  We appreciate all of your good thoughts and will keep you posted after his next surgery!

In the meantime we are socializing Chris and getting him acquainted to some of our dogs.  He is doing very well.

We appreciate all you have done and if you have not sent a donation yet, we would still appreciate it very much!  Please send to the doc or our PO Box. (see above for details).  Thank-You!!

We will post pictures sometime soon for you all to see!  Enjoy the rainy weather. :)
